No, You Are Not Behind In Your Twenties

You are not behind in your twenties. As much as you may think you are, I promise you are not. 

Oh, how life has changed since the olden days. People just used to live their lives as is, with little to no comparison to others. People didn’t care what others were up to, the latest vacation they went on, the new shiny item they just bought. They just lived.

Now our world is the complete opposite. With social media in our faces for hours a day, we scroll through everyone’s lives wishing parts of it could be our own. “If only I could have this house, this wedding, this kind of person to love me.” The list goes on. If you are on social media, I know you have felt this even in the slightest way. Jealous someone got to go on vacation while you are working non-stop just to pay your rent or happy for your friend who just got married but wondering if you will ever be able to find a love like that.

It is so easy to get consumed with what we don’t have or think we don’t have. Social media was made so that people can flaunt what is going on with their lives. Regular people become influencers as they show the best parts of their day and the life that they live, but there is so much more to them that we don’t consider. The behind-the-scenes is not always as pretty as in front of the camera.

With our media consumption rate at an all-time high, it is easy to feel like you are behind everyone. I am here to tell you that you are not.

You are living your own life the way it is meant to be lived. Every piece of your personal puzzle has come together to form where you are today and it is still growing. You will have your exciting moments when they are meant to happen. Forcing it or wishing for it won’t do any good. The more you compare yourself to others, the harder it will be to find happiness in what surrounds you.

There is so much that happens in your life that others wish could happen in theirs. Yes, even for those who think their life is boring. Here is a start, you woke up today. Some people did not. You have the gift of sight to read these words. Others don’t. You have food, water, shelter, and the basic necessities to survive. People around the world would kill to be in your spot. 

We often forget what we have and how truly lucky we are to be in the position we are in. When you begin to shift your focus on yourself, your life, and your future, you start to distance away from comparing your life to others. The less you engage in media in general, the more in tune you become with your day-to-day life. You should give yourself grace as you worked hard to get to where you are today. You should thank those around you who helped to push you along the journey of life. 

You are exactly where you are supposed to be. Your dream job, promotion, wedding, kids, house with some land will come. Spend more time focusing on improving yourself to attract the right opportunities to make all your dreams come true. The more you invest in yourself and improve your situation, the better chance you have at finding what you are looking for. Stop and see all that you have and understand how great of a position you are in.

You are not behind in your twenties. You are living the life you are meant to live. Don’t wish away the valuable years that you only get once.
